As we all know, the NBA is set to restart In Orlando in about a month. However the unanswered question still remains, who's the MVP? So here's my take on the MVP race and Who will win it.
The contenders and some key stats.
26.7 ppg 9.4 reb 3.1 ast 51.1 FG% | Lakers' record: 49-14, 1st in the West
29.6ppg 13.7reb 5.8ast 54.7 FG% | Bucks' record: 53-12, 1st in the East
28.7ppg 8.7ast 9.3reb 46.1 FG% | Mavericks' record: 40-27, 7th in the West
25.7ppg 10.6ast 7.9reb 49.8 FG% | Lakers' record: 49-14, 1st in the West
34.4ppg 7.4ast 6.4reb 43.5 FG% | Rockets' record: 40-24. 6th in the West.
Luka has been very good this year. His numbers are considerably better than last year, and he's leading the Mavs into the playoffs. The rookie of the year winner has shown huge growth this year for the Mavs. In fact, he's one of the best second year players since 2000. Theres no doubt that with the potential he has, he will one day not just be MVP, but be better then anyone playing in The NBA today. Including Lebron. The Key thing is what he does for the Mavs. Without Doncic, the Mavs are not a playoff team. Yes there's Seth curry and Porzingas but no ones telling me they can lead this Mavs team into the postseason. So Luka has certainly shown what he can be worth to the Mavs. This defiantly tells them they made the right pick trading for him on draft night. Next year I pick Luka to be an even stronger contender and maybe even MVP. He's almost there, but not yet.
Davis has had a very successfully season and he will probably win the DPOY. His MVP bid is good and he has put up some great numbers. Without Anthony Davis the Lakers aren't better than their rivals, the Clippers. However they still make the playoffs and are still probably like the third or fourth seed. More importantly, they'd still have a slight chance to win a title with one Lebron. One of the players in The NBA with the most playoff experience. They don't win the title though. The clipper s are better and stronger, and so are many other teams. So you get the point. Without AD this team will not win a title. So Anthony Davis isn't the MVP, but he's the guy that the Lakers can't go on without. If he averaged just a little better numbers and was doing this on his own. There's no doubt he would be MVP.
The 17-18 NBA MVP winner is back. Not only has he been the best on the rockets. He has been one of the best players of this generation. The step-back king himself is in the midst of one of his best seasons. Putting up 34 a game, Harden leads the league in ppg. He is setting the bar for players to come. So with all this talk about how good Harden is. Why is harden at the 3 spot? Well its more a team problem. The rockets are sitting sixth in the west and they have had a very disappointing year. The rockets really should be third in the west with the talent of Westbrook and the beard. I will admit, this team could sneak into the western conference finals. They have two guys that know the playoffs and if harden can keep those numbers up. It will get interesting. This guy is the most electric player to watch an hes always going to be that way. I believe that that if the rockets were the third seed Harden would have a much better case for MVP. He's gonna feel like he got robbed, But these two guys ahead of him are worthy of their positions.
The king himself. He has shown that age has got nothing on him. In fact it seems as though he gets better with age. The king is going to lead the lakers into the playoffs and very likely, The NBA finals. People are likely to believe that based on what the Lakers did last year with Lebron, that the Lakers are only good because of the addition of all star Anthony Davis. However that is far from the truth. Lebron's game was not the problem. It was a groin injury that sidelined him from play for five weeks. Had Lebron been healthy, the Lakers would have made the playoffs. In Lebrons 17th season he is still putting up great numbers and is leading another team to the playoffs. If the MVP was also about the playoffs Lebron would probably win. His playoff stats can get really good. However this guy in front of him has had an even better season this year.
It has been so amazing to watch this guy grow. In his first year Giannis was averaging 7 a game. Seven! Now he is averaging almost 30 a game. All of his stats have improved. His stats last year were crazy and they are even better this year. It is scary to think that Giannis could get even better next year. Whatever team he signs with, that team will become a playoff contender. I mean you see what he's done with the Bucks. Making them the beast in the east. Without him the bucks are maybe in the playoffs, but nowhere near what Giannis has lead them to. Giannis is going to be In the MVP contention for years to come and you never know one day maybe he will have his place in the HOF. As of now though he is the best player out there and he's my front runner to win MVP.
