Baseball season is officially underway and we have learned a lot so far. Despite all the health and safety protocols it has still been a lot of fun whether it's with surprising teams, slow starts for teams and players, and players to look out for.
One of the surprising teams that has really stood out to me so far is the Minnesota Twins. Yes, they are only 8 games in but watching them has been a joy. Whether it's Nelson Cruz in most RBI's and a monster week, or Randy Dobnak in ERA the Twins stand at 6-2 leading the AL Central. I had them in 2nd place for my predictions earlier this year but they are proving me wrong so far and really standing out.
One of the teams that has disappointed early is the New York Mets. They are off to a very slow start. They looked good on Opening Day against the Braves, but ever since, their bullpen has been a mess. The Mets blew an 8-2 lead to the Braves 2 days ago. It isn't their offense that seems slow it seems as if their bullpen needs one extra piece to put the puzzle together and not blow leads like that. The Mets currently sit at last in the NL East at 3-6.
There are many players that have shocked us that have gotten off to a slow start. One of those players is Brewers Outfielder Christian Yelich. He has had 27 at bats this season and only has 1 hit and that hit is a home run. Not to mention he is batting 0.37. I'm sure things will turn around for Yelich as the season progresses, but right now, it'snot looking good for him.
One of the players to look out for and has gotten off to a great start is Mariners Outfielder Kyle Lewis. Lewis has had 36 at bats and has 16 hits in which 2 of those are home-runs. Lewis is batting .444 and is off to one of the hottest starts in the MLB. If these stats for him continue, that would be great for him and the Mariners.
After all of those surprising players, teams and disappointing players and teams, here's how the standings are looking after about a week.
