Welcome to the first edition of the Weekly Waddle articles. This week on the Weekly Waddle we will be discussing how terrible the Pens played this weekend. The way they played these two afternoon games this weekend shows they are horrible when the weather is nice. They statistically stink, when it comes to afternoon hockey. We can't forget, however, how good they looked to begin the week.
Earlier this week the Pens played the Sabers and Senators and came away big winners. What you could've took from that game is the fact that maybe they did to much. Or maybe you are saying they should have stopped scoring against the Senators. All in all they looked like a new Hockey team after the 6 game skid. They looked refreshed, but more importantly they looked like the same Pens we saw all year. This is the way the week started out for the Pens. They beat the Senators by 4 and the Sabers by 2. That was not the same story come the weekend.
WHAT JUST HAPPENED???
If you are a Pens fan like me, you might think they stunk all weekend because they let soft goals in or something like that. To me they played a pretty decent game against the Caps and had absolutely no energy entering the Second and Third period's against the Hurricanes. They looked flat to me because a Mike Sullivan coached team should not be this flat consistently game after game when you're fighting to get in the playoffs. After these games the Pens need to look in the mirror and change something before it's to late.
As we head into another week of Hockey the Pens need to remind themselves how to play as a team. The problem right now is when something goes wrong the whole team shuts down. If that is the way we play in the playoffs we would be out in 4 games again, no questions asked. So, enjoy the next week of Hockey everyone, and we will see you back here for next week's edition of the Weekly Waddle.
