The NBA has officially restarted, and we've already seen lots of action from the league's best players. Below are my top 5 NBA players as of right now. Also, make sure to click the link below to watch my weekly sports talk show with Chris, which gives each of our top 15 players as well.
#1: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis's pure presence on the offensive side of the ball makes him my number one NBA player right now. His ability to get to the basket along with his insane athleticism has almost single-handedly made the Bucks a serious Finals contender. His one weakness is his shooting ability, but Giannis's ability to drive into the lane makes his less-than-stellar shooting almost a non-factor.
#2: LeBron James
Even as he ages, LeBron still remains a clear top player in the NBA. Like Giannis, LeBron is able to make plays for himself and put a team on his back. To compensate for his slight decline over the past few years, LeBron has been passing the ball a ton, and it shows, as he leads the league with 10.5 assists per game. The reason he is behind Giannis is mainly because the Lakers would not be nearly as good without star center Anthony Davis, who is a big factor to the team's success.
#3: Kawhi Leonard
Kawhi has always been a top-notch defender in the league, but his offensive playmaking skills have improved drastically over the past couple of years, and he has established himself as one of the top players in the NBA. Kawhi can guard almost anybody on defense, and on offense, his shot-making ability makes him almost unguardable. Having Paul George on his team certainly helps, but Kawhi has been the main playmaker on the Los Angeles Clippers this season.
#4: Anthony Davis
The Los Angeles Lakers are by far the best team in the Western Conference, and Anthony Davis is one of the reasons why. Davis showed he could perform in a role as a star, but now that he has LeBron to take some pressure off, Davis has elevated his game even further. His scoring and rebounding ability has helped the Lakers in a big way, and Davis is undoubtedly the best center in the league right now.
#5: Kevin Durant
Obviously, Durant is not playing right now, but once he returns, he should continue playing like the star that he is. Durant is a perfect dual threat small forward, with the ability to drive into the lane and score or knock down shots from beyond the arc. It remains to be seen if Durant can play exactly like the player he once was, but if we get clarity on his health being fine, he could jump to top three status.
There are many players who have the ability to be top five, but these players have seperated themselves from the rest of the pack. They all are electrifying in their own way, and all of them (except Durant) will have the opportunity to lead their teams deep into the playoffs.
