We are about 25% through the season and MLB teams are establishing whether they are legit or not at this point in the season. This is not an opinion based article, I determined the top 5 based purely off winning percentage. There are 6 teams on this list just because there are a few teams that have the same record. This is not based off of today, it is from 8/8/20. I will be going from the worst team on the list to the best, lets get into it.
T4. Oakland Athletics: 10-4 As of August 8th, the Athletics have a 3.5 game lead over the reigning American League Champions, the Houston Astros. Oakland has been winning tons of close games and they have been great in the close games. They are fueled by pitching, their 2.82 team ERA is good for 3rd in the MLB. Oakland's pitching has been elite so far and the bats have been coming through in clutch situations.
T4. Minnesota Twins: 10-4 It is no secret that the Minnesota Twins hit absolute bombs. They are top 6 in the MLB in HR, RBI, and R. Nelson Cruz, Max Kepler, and Marwin Gonzalez have been destroying the baseball this season and they are the heart of this great Twins lineup. Their pitching is also great, they have the 4th best team ERA in the MLB sitting at 2.99. They are also top 5 in team WHIP and average against.
T4. Los Angeles Dodgers: 10-4 The Dodgers are the best hitting team in the league. They are first in the MLB in SLG%, OPS, HR, RBI, and R. They are a well-oiled offensive machine. It is a full team effort, they have 10 players with a .700+ OPS. They are doing all of these great things with the reigning NL MVP Cody Bellinger struggling early in the season. They are one of the best teams on paper and on the field.

T2. Colorado Rockies: 10-3 The Colorado Rockies are hitting out of their minds to start the season. Blackmon, Murphy, Kemp, and Story all have an incredibly high .940 OPS. They are top 5 in the MLB in R, AVG, OBP, SLG%, and OPS. The pitching has also been very good, they have a 3.10 team ERA which is 6th in the MLB. They have scored 5+ runs in their last 12 games, so they are a consistently great offensive team.
T2. Chicago Cubs: 10-3 The Cubs are top 10 in the MLB in HR, OBP, SLG%, WHIP, and CG. They have been a very balanced team and a new person is delivering every night. They are winning close games and everybody is contributing so far for Chicago. They have not looked super impressive despite having a great record, but they are finding different ways to win games every night and that is what great teams do.
1. Miami Marlins: 7-1 I never thought that I would say this, but 1/4 into the season the Marlins have the best record in the MLB. They have only played 8 games compared to other teams playing 13-14 games, but they have been great in those games. Their opponents have not been great and they are taking advantage of that. They have tons of confidence and it will be interesting to see what they do against a legit opponent.
