The New England Patriots took care of business against the Dallas Cowboys, coming out with a 13-9 win. The conditions were not preferable with the rain pouring down from start to finish, the temperature in the 30's and the wind around 20 miles per hour. You think that rattled the Patriots one bit? If so, think again. The Patriots are used to theses type of conditions but the Cowboys, not so much. The Cowboys are used to playing in a dome where the conditions are never a factor. I mention this, because the weather definitely played a part on many occasions during the game. The Patriots won their 18th straight regular-season game and also set an NFL record with 17 straight 10-win seasons. It is truly remarkable and further proof that the dynasty is still rolling on two decades after it began. In this game, Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass and the Patriots defense held the Cowboys offense to three field goals.
Tom Brady's touchdown pass to N'Keal Harry turned out to be the only touchdown of the game for either team. This was N'Keal Harry's first career NFL touchdown. This was only his second game with the team after missing the first 9 with an injury. Jakobi Meyers was also targeted 9 times with 4 receptions for 74 yards. It was definitely nice to see the two rookies play a big role in the offense in this game but Tom Brady didn't really have any other option. With Mohamed Sanu (ankle) and Phillip Dorsett (concussion) out for the game, Tom Brady had a shortage of weapons on offense. He worked with what he had and finished 17 of 37 for 190 yards. Julian Edelman also caught 8 passes for 93 yards. While the offense is still looking for answers, the defense got them the win yet again.
The Cowboys struggled to move the ball for most of the game and were just 2 of 13 on third down. They did have a chance to take the lead late but a 4th down completion to Amari Cooper was overturned after an official review. I think it is safe to say that the Patriots defense is the real deal after not allowing a touchdown all game long. The Patriots have now allowed 14 points or fewer in all 10 wins this season. The Patriots are a very disciplined team and crucial mistakes from the Cowboys were costly. The Patriots are a team that don't make many mistakes and when the other team does, they are the best at taking advantage of those mistakes. Matthew Slater had an incredible blocked punt and Stephon Gilmore also had an interception. The Patriots defense faced one of the best offenses in the league and passed the test. The win wasn't a pretty one and the Patriots did not play a perfect game by any means. What the Patriots did do is find a way to win as they do time and time again. Even when things weren't going as they wanted, they still managed to get a win over a very good football team in the Dallas Cowboys and are sitting on top of the AFC with a 10-1 record.
