The New England Patriots are the most thought about, loved, and hated team in the NFL, whether people want to admit it or not.
“Haters gonna hate”. As a fan of the New England Patriots I think that is the most common phrase that comes out of our mouths. The Patriots have come along way since 2002 when people were rallying around the scrappy underdogs who were preparing to face the so called “Greatest show on turf”. Fast forward to 2020 and NFL fans everywhere are rejoicing in the fact that they didn’t have to watch the Patriots play on Championship Sunday and they don’t have to watch them play in the Super Bowl.
Yesterday the Lamar Hunt Trophy “Returned” to Arrowhead Stadium, even though it had never been there before. Jimmy Garoppolo is preparing for his third Super Bowl, this time as a starter, and yet, I spent yesterday being bombarded about the Patriots not going to the Super Bowl even though we’ve known this for over two weeks. But, unlike a lot of Twitter warriors in Pats Nation, I don’t get too upset by the “Haters”, because they honestly make no impact on my life whatsoever. Regardless of what happens in Miami in two weeks, or what happen to the Patriots the next ten years, I have had the pleasure of watching the Patriots compete in 10 Super Bowls since the 90’s and nobody can ever take that away from me.
Pats Nation, we don’t need a Packers fan to validate what Tom Brady the Patriots have accomplished over the last twenty something years. If Max Kellerman wants to tweet that Patrick Mahomes is the best football player in the history of the NFL, let him. Getting upset about the click bait media or a bunch of trolls on Twitter will do nothing but get you upset, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.
A few years ago I was watching an old Eazy E interview and they were asking him about his beef with his former NWA members and some of the backlash that he was getting from the fans and the media, and he said exactly what guys like Kellerman and Nick Wright live by: “Any attention is good attention”. Nick Wright doesn’t send out his passive aggressive Patriots tweets so that we won’t react. Nicky the click bait media troll wants us to respond. Every time I click on one of his tweets and see it flooded with Patriots fans calling him all sorts of names, I just think “STOP IT!”, it’s exactly the response that he’s looking for.
If we were really serious about shutting up the Nick Wrights and Max Kellermans of the world, we just wouldn’t respond. That’s why we can respond with anything we want and neither of them will block us. Everything they say is for a reaction. Rob Parker on the other hand believes every stand he takes, regardless of the blow back or how stupid a stand it is. That’s why many of us live in the blocked world of Parker.
But, it’s not just the national fake news media with pretend journalists who are looking for reactions. “Reporters” (I use that title loosley) like Ben Volin have also resorted to trolling Patriots fans as an attempt to keep himself relevant, and now we are seeing this with Gary Tanguay, a guy I had never heard of before, who suddenly has insight on Tom Brady. If we really wanted to hurt these fraud media heads, don’t respond and call them idiots. Just ignore them, because that’s what will truly hurt them. Show their bosses that we don’t want to hear from them. If were able to do that - Then we would have won the social media battle. But, the most important thing to remember is: Don’t get mad, because that’s exactly the reaction they are looking for.
It's so easy to target the Patriots and their fan base. Shannon Sharpe doesn't really want the Patriots to go away because his rating would go away too. Nobody is going to continue tuning in just to hear the media gush all over Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Former WCW Executive Producer Eric Bischoff said it perfect when he said "Controversy creates cash". The moment the Patriots are not getting the reaction that they are hoping for, they will turn on the Kansas City Chiefs, and it will be the 'Kingdoms" turn to defend their quarterback, coach, and legacy.
The Patriots are the team that people love to hate, and as Patriots fans we could have the satisfaction of shutting these talking heads up, and all we have to do is shut up ourselves.
