The NBA trade deadline came and went on Thursday without the Lakers making a move. That angered some segments of the fan base.
Heading into the deadline the Lakers we're linked to Derrick Rose, Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, and Andre Iguodala. All but Rose was traded but not to the Lakers. Miami made a power move by aquiring Andre Iguodala and Jae Crowder from Mepmhis. The Clippers aquired Marcus Morris fromt he Knicks and we got to see Robert Covington up close an personal in his new Rockets uniform Thursday night.
It's easy to get mad at the Lakers for not making a move but in truth a move wasn't avaiable to them.
It was rumored the Knicks wanted Kyle Kuzma and Danny Green for Marcus Morris. The asking price was just too high. Rob was smart to walk away. Trading 2 wing players for 1 leaves us in the same postion we started at. The Lakers need to add a wing and a point gaurd and the buyout market is the way to go.
No player has been bought out yet but names will start to leak. As long as a player is boughtout by March first they may join another team before the end of the year. Maybe the most important pick up won't be a player bought out but one in retirement.
Darren Collison attened Thursday nights game against the Rockets and had dinner with Jeanie Buss and Kurt Rambis. Many inclduing myself expect Collison to return to the NBA after all star break as a Laker. If he does that would vastly improve the Lakers point gaurd rotation.
I encourage fans to not overract to the Laker lack of moves at the trade dealine. Rob Pelinka knows what he's doing.
