The Lightning have thoroughly dominated their 2nd round series against the Bruins, and it isn't particularly close. The Lightning, ever since going down 3-0 against the Bruins in game 1, have outscored the B's 16-5 in the past 3 games. Here's how they beat the Bruins on Friday afternoon to take a 3-1 lead in the series.
The Lightning were able to get off to a splendid start. Ondrej Palat put the Bolts ahead early on with a beautiful snipe past the blocker of Jaroslav Halak. It wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention the great pass from Brayden Point, as he was able to regroup after his centering pass was blocked in front. They also kept their cool after Nick Ritchie took exception to a hit on one of his teammates, and took down Cedric Paquette. He was penalized with a roughing penalty. The Lightning tacked on another after Anthony Cirelli set up up Ondrej Palat for his second goal of the game. Palat squeezed it just over the glove of Halak. Later on in the period, Nick Ritchie went ahead and outdid himself. He rammed Yanni Gourde into the boards, creating a scary and potentially life-threatening situation. He received a five minute major, and the Lightning converted. Victor Hedman ripped a shot from the point, and the puck took a fluky bounce off the lower body of Par Lindholm. The Lightning were up 3-0, and the Bolts would go on to win the game, surviving a late game surge from the Bruins, which included a goal from Jake DeBrusk.
The Lightning will look to shut the door on this series with the Bruins on Monday at 7:00 PM EST. The Bruins will have to bring their A game if they want to extend this series to a 6th game.
