Grading 2019 NFL Draft First Round Picks Part 2

Christian Giunta April 19, 2020  Comments

The 1st round of the 2019 NFL Draft produced some great players. Most players turned out to be pretty solid, but there were a select few that really stood out in their rookie season. With picks 11-21, 6 were defensive players and 5 were offensive players. Most of the players taken with picks 11-21 were lineman, both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. This is a 3 part series, so lets get into picks 11-21.

With the 11th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select Jonah Williams, an offensive tackle from Alabama. Williams was not a good pick for the Bengals, he was injured all year long. He will have a chance in the 2020 to revive his career, but for now he gets a D. With the 12th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select Rashan Gary, a linebacker from Michigan. Gary did not play too much for the Packers in his rookie year and did not churn out big numbers. Gary will get more snaps though, he gets a C. With the 13th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select Christian Wilkins, a defensive lineman from Clemson. Wilkins was an alright pass rusher in the 2019 season and he was fantastic against the run. If Wilkins becomes a better pass rusher, he has a very bright future, he gets a B. With the 14th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Chris Lindstrom, an offensive guard from Boston College. Lindstrom only played 5 games in his rookie year due to injury. He did not play much and did not showcase his skills, he gets a D.

With the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select Dwayne Haskins, a quarterback from Ohio State. Haskins was not great, but not terrible and he is the franchise quarterback for the Redskins. Haskins is the future for Washington, he gets a B. With the 16th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select Brian Burns, a defensive lineman from Florida State. Burns had limited snaps in his rookie year and he was great in those snaps. He is a great pass rusher, so he gets a B+. With the 17th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select Dexter Lawrence, a defensive lineman from Clemson. Lawrence was alright at stopping the run, but not great overall. He did not have much effect at all, he gets a C. With the 18th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Garrett Bradbury, a center from North Carolina State. Bradbury was solid and reliable as the Vikings center during the 2019 season. He has a bright future, he gets a B.

With the 19th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select Jeffery Simmons, a defensive lineman from Mississippi State. Simmons was alright when he played, but not great. He was injured for part of the season, he gets a C. With the 20th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select Noah Fant, a tight end from Iowa. Fant is a good target and should develop with Drew Lock. He has a bright future, he gets a B+. With the 21st pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select Darnell Savage, a safety from Maryland. Savage is a great player and an instant starter for the Packers. He was an important player for the Packers, he gets a B+.
