Nathan Eovaldi seemed unhittable tonight as he went 7 innings and was the key factor in the Red Sox 7-1 win over the Orioles. He went 7 innings and only gave up 5 hits and just 1 run along with 6 K's.
The Red Sox started out leaving runners on the corners in the first with Santander making a great leaping catch to end the inning, but Eovaldi also got out of a jam himself in the first. Peraza then proceeded to hit a bloop single into center for an RBI to score Christian Vazquez, and then Verdugo grounded out but drove in another run to make it 2-0. Nothing happened in the bottom of the 2nd, as all that happened there was Pillar making a nice sliding catch.
In the top half of the next inning which was the 3rd Xander Bogaerts blasted one into the left field seats to give the Red Sox the 3-0 lead.
The Red Sox managed to take Wojciechowski out of the game as they got his pitch count up to 85 in just the 4th inning, and with two runners on, that forced Brandon Hyde to bring in Dillon Tate to shut out the fire, in which he did and went 2 innings along with getting out of the jam in the 4th.
Nothing really happened after that. Eovaldi continued to pound the zone and go on and continue his amazing start until he gave up a long ball to Pat Valaika in the 7th. That would be the Orioles last and only run of the game. Eovaldi's pitch count was near 100 so he was taken out after the 7th.
Then it went to the Top of the 8th, where Tanner Scott was able to strand two and get out of a jam with a Jose Peraza groundout to short. In the Bottom of the 8th, Brasier came in to pitch, and he had a 1-2-3 inning, with the score still lying 3-1.
The Top of the 9th was a huge offensive inning for the Bo Sox, as they managed to get 4 runs. It started out with a Xander Bogaerts RBI single which drove Verdugo in, but the big part of the inning came from Mitch Moreland, when he drove one into left center field over the wall 402 ft to give the Red Sox the 7-1 lead.
Phillips Valdez came to shut the door who has been arguably the Red Sox best pitcher so far, as he managed to have a 1-2-3 inning as well to finish it off for the Red Sox win.
