With the NBA restart scheduled for July 30th it is still very unclear what the playoffs may look like. That, however makes for excitement, like the Celtics coming out of the east. The picture is still very unclear and nothing is for sure yet. We really don't know how players will be playing and how they will fair without fans. What we do know is that basketball is back so lets talk Celtics and the NBA championship.
Jayson Tatum has improved in every category this season. His ppg has skyrocketed and he has become the leader the Celtics needed. Most people looked to Kemba walker this season as the extra push for Boston. However Tatum has been the biggest factor this season for the Celtics and the reason they can win they can win the title. Tatum has gotten people to look at Boston as not just a good team, but a team that can make a deep run. Tatum also has playoff Experience which will come in handy in this years postseason. Without Tatum, Boston won't be able to get past the Bucks and the Heat. I can admit that Boston has been great because of other reasons this season, but Tatum stands out as a rising superstar. Hes easily one of the best players under 22 and he is getting so close to becoming an MVP caliber player. We saw that shine trough in the month of February. When he won player of the month award. I have no doubts that one day, his name could be up there with many other greats. Lastly Jayson Tatum has proved himself. When We looked at Tatum last year and the year before he looked like he had lots of potential. the question was if he could tap into that potential. With Kyrie as the leader there was no room for Tatum to grow. Now that Kyrie's gone Tatum has blossomed. He has proved that he will be ready to take the next step to becoming the face of the NBA.
Boston has some of the most depth in the NBA. Yes we look at Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba as the stars. But what most non Celtics fans don't know is that Boston is good because they have lots of depth. When we talk about depth we talk about players off the bench or very underrated players that can have a good affect on the team. That is exactly what the Celtics have. They have players such as Hayward, Smart, Kanter, Semi Ojeyle Robert Williams, Grant Williams, Carson Edwards, Romeo Langford, brad Wanamaker and many more. The thing that makes these player special is that they each bring something positive to the table. You have Hayward who can make you shots and play a great game scoring 17 plus a night. Then you have Smart who masters his craft in defense. However he can also make clutch shots and be the all around player the Boston needs. Smart is probably the definition of depth, because he can be the most important underrated asset to a team that has championship aspirations. Then you have the other players that can be useful when the starters are out of energy and so are the guys right off the bench. This players can have big nights and they have lots of potentially. Remember when Carson Edwards scored 30 against the Cavs. You probably don't even know who Carson Edwards is. That's exactly why Boston has lots of great depth. Depth can go a long way too. If you have a great starting lineup but you have no depth then your chances to go deep in the playoffs go way down. This is exactly why we see great teams get taken down in the playoffs. So this is a big reason why the Celtics could go far in the playoffs.
The third reason is because of their schedule. The Boston Celtics have a fairly easy schedule. They face the bottom three teams in the restart from the east with the Magic, Nets, and Wizards. They also face the Portland Trailblazers and the Grizzles who are both under .500 this season. They do play three tough games against the raptors heat and bucks however the Celtics have one both seasons series against the heat and raptors so far and they contending with the bucks to split the season series. So they do have an easy 5 wins I would say. However they could defiantly go undefeated and win 8 games. This could be big because it could determine playoff position for the Celtics. If they Celtics can grab the second or 1st seed they will have home court advantage until the Conference finals. The more important part is that they don't Have to play the bucks early. This means that someone else could beat the bucks making the job easier. It Defiantly gives the Celtics an advantage. Even if they lose like two or three games they are still a top seed so no need to worry. I think its Defiantly safe to say that Boston can make a run for the finals.
