Bill O'Brien is not fit to run a football team. He's a control freak and a watered down, poisoned version of Bill Belichick.
When the news broke a couple of weeks ago that the Houston Texans had traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals, the first thought that entered my brain was that Bill O'Brien had lost his mind. Fast forward to today, and I still think that O'Brien has lost his mind. But, the Texans head coach and defacto general manager is defending his decision to trade away Hopkins insisting that he made a decision that was in the best interest for the Texans.
"It was in the best interest of our team," he said, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "DeAndre Hopkins was a great football player. We loved DeAndre Hopkins. He had three years left on his deal and he wanted a raise. David Johnson is going to be a great addition to our football team."
Let's be honest for a second, BOB is completely wrong when he says "DeAndre Hopkins was a great football player". He's wrong because he's speaking in past tense. DeAndre Hopkins is STILL a great football player, in fact, DeAndre Hopkins is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, and Bill O'Brien traded him for David Johnson and a 2nd round draft pick, gifting Hopkins to the Cardinals, and significantly hurting the Texans.
Bill O'Brien is not fit to run a football team. He's a control freak and a watered down, poisoned version of Bill Belichick. O'Brien has also showed he doesn't like leadership in his locker room, and I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to move on from JJ Watt. The only reason BOB couldn't trade JJ is because the entire city of Houston would revolt.
Former Dallas Cowboy legend Michael Irvin also revealed that BOB had an issue with Hopkins bringing his children's mother's to the stadium. According to Irvin, Hopkins revealed that in a meeting Bill O'Brien compared DeAndre Hopkins to former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. I can't even figure out how BOB even came to that conclusion, according to many people in the know, Hopkins doesn't reflect anything comparable to Hernandez. It's just further proof to Bill O'Brien's madness.
Even Houston's star quarterback Deshaun Watson showed his confusion and displeasure to the move when he tweeted:
"I don't know how I'ma make it out of here clean. Can't even keep track of who plays for the other team. Iconic duos rip and split at the seams."
I don't see how the Texans are going to have a happy locker room this season. The Hopkins trade already started sparking rumors that Watson wants out of Houston, he's even been linked with O'Briens former team the Patriots.
I have to assume that Bill O'Brien is going to be on short leash this season, and if the Texans do start to falter, the only logical step would be to fire O'Brien.
The Texans have signed Randall Cobb to try and replace Hopkins. Cobb is a good wide receiver, but let's be serious, he's not DeAndre Hopkins, and Bill O'Brien better hope that he has some magic up his sleeve, because right now, the Houston Texans look like they're ready to take a huge step backwards.
