The NL East is a division with stacked players. The Washington Nationals have Max Scherzer, and Stephen Strasburg. The New York Mets have Jacob DeGrom, Pete Alonso and Michael Conforto. The Atlanta Braves have Ronald Acuna, Ozzie Albies and Freddie Freeman. The Philadelphia Phillies have Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins and Jake Arrieta. The Miami Marlins is a tough decision because they dont have a tremendous star, but instead they have a bunch of former all stars that are at an average level. This will be based off this new MLB season, and not overall in a players career.
New York Mets
The best player on the New York Mets is easily Jacob DeGrom. As much as I want Pete Alonso, and this is because he is one of the best hitters in the league, a home run derby champion, and rookie of the year, he is only a rookie and you cant compare him to DeGrom. DeGrom is a 2 time Cy Young award winner and those were on back to back seasons. DeGrom is a 3 time all star, he won Rookie of the Year in 2014, he led the MLB in ERA in 2018, and last year he led the MLB in strikeouts. If you look at his record, it is never that impressive. This doesn't stop the Cy Young judges from picking someone else. DeGrom is an ustoppable pitcher who always has a low ERA and a high strikeout rate.
The Atlanta Braves best player is Freddie Freeman. This is based on this year and Freeman is getting older. I wanted to pick Ronald Acuna because he is a great hitter and stealer plus he is young and only getting better, but Freeman is a tremendous fielder and hitter. Maybe in 5 years if Acuna is still on the Braves, he will be the best on the Braves because Freeman will be older. Freeman is a 3 time all star, one time silver slugger winner, and a gold glove winner at 1st base. Freeman had a tremedous year last year, and is only going to do better on a tem that has gotten better. The Braves got Marcell Ozuna and Yonder Alonso this offseason, and Albies and Acuna are only going to get better.
The Miami Marlins best player is tough but I have to go with Corey Dickerson. Dickerson is now the best fielder and hitter on the Marlins. Don't get me wrong, he is not the strongest hitter, but he is the best. The Marlins have gotten tons of all stars this offseason. This includes Matt Kemp, Jesus Aguilar, Jonathon Villar, Brandon Kintzler and Matt Joyce. Kemp is older and doesn't have a lot left in the tank. Aguilar is probably the strongest hitter on the Marlins, but like I said not the best. Dickerson is! Villar is now the fastest player on the Marlins and a great fielder. I would put Villar as the 2nd best player on the Marlins. He hit for the cycle last year against the Yankees, and led the league in stolen bases in 2016. Dickerson is a one time all star and gold glove winner in 2018. Dickerson should also get higher statistics as he will be the leader for the Marlins, and should bat leadoff or cleanup.
The best player on the Phillies is Bryce Harper. If you put Harper on any tem, he will probably be the best player unless you put him with Mike Trout. Harper is a great all around player. He won the home run derby in front of his home crowd in 2018, he led the MLB in home runs in 2015, he won Rookie of the Year, MVP, 1 time silver slugger award winner, 1 time gold glover, Hank Aaron award winner, and is an outsanding 6 time all star. This Phillies best player is up for no debate.
There is no more Anthony Rendon on the Nationals. Even if there was, I would still pick Max Scherzer. Yes! Scherzer is my pick. Scherzer, year after year, continues to be a Cy Young finalist. If it wasn't for Jacob DeGrom, he would have a unbelievable, 5 Cy Youngs. Instead, he has a still great, 3 Cy Youngs! Scherzer is a 7 time all star, 4 time wins leader, 3 time NL strikout leader, threw 2 no-hitters and 2 immaculate innings, and is a World Series Champion, as that happened last year. You can already tell he is a tremendous pitcher when you see how many times he went to the All Star Game. When you see his no hitters and Cy Young awards, you know he is the best player on the Nationals!
