The Red Sox played their first season this year against the Orioles this weekend and the series was very telling. The Series was a three game series at fenway that showed us again why we love to watch baseball. Every series for every team is so much more important then normal because its going to be a 60 game sprint. So without further wait lets recap this weekend of Boston baseball.
Game one was a blowout. The Red Sox won 13 to 2 and proved that they din't need to go yard as they had 7 doubles and no home runs. The Red Sox smoked the Orioles with the help of a great performance from Nathan Evoldi who went 6 innings allowed 5 hits one run and struck out four. It was really great to see Evoldi doing great things because the Red Sox are really short on good pitching this season. The Red Sox also had some great debuts as Kevin Pillar the former Blue Jay and Giant went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Also, Jose Peraza went 4 for 5 with 2 RBI in his first game as a Red Sox. Devers and Bennitendi both went o for 4 in the first game of the season. Martinez was put in the two hole for the Red Sox and did well going 3 for 5. The Red Sox won their first opening day game since 2017 and the certainty did it in fashion. The question for red Sox would be if they could keep up that pitching and that great hitting. Not to mention the bullpen did pretty good through three innings as well. I think its definitely safe to say the Red Sox had a great opening day.
Game two was a very big disappointment as The Red Sox starting pitcher Martin Perez gave up 5 earned runs in the first two innings of his five inning start. These are problems the Red Sox are sure to run into much more this season with a very incomplete starting rotation. The Red Sox hitting also wasn't great as they only scored two runs. They also left 10 on base. Devers and Benny went o for 5 again with no hits. Vasquez and Bogaerts both had the day off as it was a day game right after a night game. Ill give it to teh orioles though, they played a great game and Cobb has a great start. There was one good piece of new for the Red Sox as Verdugo went 3 for 4 in his first game as a Red Sox. This was really not good for Boston as this game meant so much in a 60 game season and they blew it. The Red Sox bullpen was okay with the exception for Dylan Covey who gave up 2 runs on three hits in two innings of work. The Red Sox showed the inconsistency that we will see this season as The Red Sox lost by five after winning the first game by 11. If the Red Sox cant fix their pitching were going to be seeing a very disappointing year from Boston.
Game three was so terrible. The Pitching was even worse than yesterday as Ryan Weber allowed 6 runs in 3.2 innings. The Orioles struck early with two runs in the first and then the momentum kept building. The Red Sox offense again struggled as they only scored 4 runs in a helpless offensive effort. This series could be the Red Sox season in a nut shell. I mean they blew an easy sweep over the Orioles and lost the series. These are games that you just can't give up in a 60 game season because there all the more important. The Redsox need to win these easy series and need to snatch every win they can. I'm really upset because The Red Sox don't even have a starting pitcher for the game tomorrow against the Mets. Its going to be a very rocky season for the pitching. The Red Sox need to do everything in their power to put runs up on the board and win. Lastly lets just at least sweep the Mets to make up for this very very disappointing series against the Orioles. Yes Baltimore of all Teams.
