With the first NBA games tipping off on Thursday night, it's a good time to make some bold predictions. These predictions will range from East and West, to seeding predictions and end of year playoff results. Let's take a look.
1. The Trail Blazers get the 8 Seed in the West
As of right now, the Blazers are 3.5 games back of the 8 seeded Grizzlies. However, as long as they finish less than 4 games back, there will be a play-in tournament for the final spot. I think the Blazers have the talent to win multiple games and end up claiming that top spot. The Blazers have tons of stars, including Damian Lillard, to give them momentum right off the bat. Don't be surprised if at the end of the season, the Blazers are the 8 seed in the Western Conference.
2. No team will have a 8-0 or 0-8 record
Before the playoffs start, all 22 teams will play 8 seeding games. Some teams are without some of their best players, which will make it tough for them to contend. To go along with that, there are a few back-to-backs, and I doubt some teams will play at their full capacity. All of these teams in the bubble are good enough to squeeze out at least one win. Great teams are sure to drop a game or two if their stars are resting. Don't be surprised if we see no undefeated teams or teams who don't have a win.
3. The Nuggets will drop from the 3 Seed
As of now, the Denver Nuggets hold the 3 seed in the West, but they only have that spot by 1.5 games. With the 6 seeded Rockets only 2.5 games back, that leaves a lot of room for the Nuggets to slide back. The Jazz, Thunder, and Rockets can all improve in Orlando, making the margin for error very slim. I can see the Nuggets sliding back after a rough schedule that includes playing the Lakers, Clippers, and Raptors at the end of the season. Look for the Nuggets to slide out of the top 3.
4. The Lakers nor the Bucks will make the NBA Finals
The two favorites to win the NBA title this season are the Bucks and Lakers. As we have seen in the past, the favorites don't always win it all. This year in the East, there are tons of great teams to knock of the Bucks, including the Celtics and the Raptors. As for the Lakers, they will have to make it through one of the best Western Conferences in recent history. There are tons of teams who can knock of the Lakers: the Clippers, Jazz, Rockets, and Mavs. Look for the two favorites to not even make it into the NBA Finals.
5. The Sixers will stay the 6 Seed in the East
The Sixers are one of the more interesting teams in the NBA. The inability to win away from home is what hurts them the most. The Sixers also lack shooting and guard play. When the Sixers are on the road, which the will be the entire playoffs, they will just get outplayed as they need the home crowd to win critical games. To be condenders, the Sixers need to make a lot of roster and front office moves. Until they make those moves needed to win a championship, the Sixers will stay right where they are: not a championship caliber team.
The NBA season restarts on Thursday. It should be very interesting to see how all of this plays out and who will be in the playoffs for the 2020 season. Check back to see how accurate these bold predictions were.
