The franchise tag deadline was about a week and a half ago and there were plenty of NFL players that will play without a contract this season. 2 players did get contracts during this time. Chris Jones agreed to a 4 year contract with the Chiefs and Derrick Henry agreed to a 4 year deal with the Titans. There were 12 players that went without a contract, lets get to that list.
The Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will play under the franchise tag this season as the Cowboys try to decide if he is their quarterback of the future. Prescott getting tagged is a big deal and he has the potential to get paid this offseason. A.J. Green also will play under the franchise tag this season. This is the biggest season of Green's career and depending on how it goes he could get paid this offseason or he could be out of the league after this season. The Broncos safety Justin Simmons is another player that got franchise tagged this offseason. Simmons has one of the best iron man streaks in the NFL and he is a huge piece of the Broncos' defense. Yannick Ngakoue is a player that has been unhappy in Jacksonville for a long time and he may hold out without a contract this season. It is no secret the Ngakoue wants out of Jacksonville and he likely will not play another game as a Jaguar.

about NFL players that did not get a contract extension on his SportsCastr channel.
Joe Thuney is another player that was tagged without an extension. The Patriots did not want to extend Thuney even though he is a great player. Thuney will get paid by someone whether it is the Pats or not. Another tagged offensive guard is Brandon Scherff of The Washington Football Team. That is the greatest team name of all time and they should resign Scherff, he is a great player. The Los Angeles Chargers have decided that Hunter Henry will play under the franchise tag this year. Henry is a tight end that is looking to get rid of his injury problems and have a big season this year. The Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree is another player that did not get an extension by the deadline. Dupree had 11.5 sacks last year which seems deserving of a contract, but he will have this season to prove his value in the market.
Leonard Williams was a midseason acquisition for the Giants and he got tagged this offseason. Williams will have a whole season to prove himself as a Giant and try to get a big contract in the offseason. Anthony Harris will be playing without a contract this season. Harris had 6 interceptions this season and 3 in 2018, so the production is there and he deserves a contract. Matthew Judon was franchise tagged this offseason and he has had a very productive 4 year career. He has turned out very well for a 5th round pick and he will likely get paid after this season. The last player we will be going over is Shaq Barrett. Barrett had a career high and NFL high 19.5 sacks in 2019. If Barrett performs anything like last season, he will definitely get a new contract next offseason.
